Top 25 Facebook Games - January 2011

Top 25 Facebook Games for January 2011
Smaller developers have seen more growth over much of 2010, while many of the top titles from leading developers have lost users — in December, though, the losses weren’t so bad.

And, it was also a big month for newcomers to the list with the appearance of Zuma Blitz, It Girl, and, of course, CityVille. Moreover, in case anyone has been on hiatus for a month, Zynga’s new city-builder has found itself at the top with nearly 85 million monthly actives as of today; a plateau breached by FarmVille back in February 2010. CityVille’s growth, however, took less than two months to acquire.
Here are the highlights for the Top 25 Facebook Games for January 2011:
  • For the first time in over a year, a new #1 appears in the form of Zynga’sCityVille with over 80 million MAU. The long running FarmVille still holds onto #2, however, having gained 4.1 million MAU for a total of approximately 58.9 million.
  • In fact, most Zynga games have grown this past month, with only one of its oldest applications losing users. At #5 remains Mafia Wars, but the role-playing title loses over roughly 1.7 million MAU.
  • Digital Chocolate sees its first loss in a while for Millionaire City. Still boasting over 12.7 million MAU, the title only drops by about 17,000.
  • Bejeweled Blitz, from PopCap Games stays relative to its middle-of-the-pack position, but also lost around 83,000 MAU. That said, PopCap’s new Facebook app, Zuma Blitz made its debut to the top 25, coming in at #20 with a growth of about 6.6 million MAU.
  • Our top pick for the best Facebook games for the second half of 2010, City of Wonder, from Playdom, is growing too. Sitting at #13, the title has grown by 2.1 million MAU.
  • CrowdStar is seeing some love too this month with it’s game, It Girl. Appearing at #18, the girls-oriented title gains around 1.3 million MAU for a total of 6,851,306.
  • GSN and Funzio see gains too, as Games (#19) and Crime City (#21) also both grow, earning around 6.8 and 6.6 million MAU respectively.
  • At #24, Kabam’s strategy game, Kingdoms of Camelot makes a return, earning just under 6 million MAU.

CityVille Reaches 100 Million Monthly Active Users

CityVille, the latest game from the largest Facebook game maker Zynga, has reached 100 million monthly active users, according to the stats on CityVille’s Facebook page.
AppData, a site that specializes in Facebook app metrics, hasCityVille at 99.9 million monthly active users, but since (by AppData’s count) CityVille has been adding nearly 400,000 new monthly active users every day, the 100 million MAU milestone will surely be reached in the next update.
The success of CityVille has been meteoric and has totally eclipsed FarmVille, an earlier Zynga title that reigned supreme over the world of Facebook games for more than a year. It took CityVille less than a month to surpass FarmVille in terms of both daily and monthly active users, and it took less than 40 days for it to reach 100 million users.
Zynga’s apps still rule AppData’s leaderboard, holding four of the top five spots, but CityVille‘s success is unmatched. It seems that Zynga has another huge winner on its hands. The only question now is: how big canCityVille get?

FrontierVille Mission: New Year's Resolution

frontierville resolutions missions

Whether or not you've started on your real-life New Year's resolutions, you will also get the chance to try your hand at a series of new virtual resolutions in FrontierVille. The FrontierVille resolutions mission consists of six different 'resolutions' that you need to complete before January 31 if you want the big payoff.

What is the big payoff -- aside from being virtually healthy, weathy and wise? You will be the proud new owner a new badge, a book of experience, which can be used to level up faster and 50 Horseshoes, which is roughly the equivalent of $6. Maybe you can use the extra currency to buy a few boosts or maybe even that awesome Double Rainbow decoration you've had your eye on for months (OK, fine -- I'm talking about myself -- I can't wait to get that friggin' rainbow!).
frontiervillel resolution missions

The six resolutions can each be purchased for coins (either on this resolutions screen or in the store) and each has a suggested level you should be to complete each one. The first ones start off easy and then get more progressively difficult as you go on.

Below are the six missions, how much they cost and just what you need to do in each to get the job done. Here's a few things you should start on right now to make sure you finish your resolutions in time: 1. Plant 30 Cabbages and 50 Flax. 2. If you don't have 'em already, make sure you have 50 of the following: cows, oxen goats (you'll need to sell 50 adults of each animal for the last mission, so the sooner you get started the better). 3. Buy all six missions at once, so you'll can get credit for all of your daily activities like tending animals and clearing rocks. It'll cost 32,000 coins, and it'll be worth it.
