Why It's Hot:

Metroid is one of the most beloved franchises in all of gaming, and the new game looks to honor that tradition by blending its classic 2D gameplay with the first-person approach of more recent Metroids. Collaboratively developed by Nintendo and Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive), it's in great hands. Early looks have been positive.

Why It's Not:

Mixing different camera perspectives might sound neat, but can be problematic. If they don’t nail the various control schemes needed to handle the divergent looks, it might prove too unwieldy for some.

The developer's decision to make series star Samus Aran a woman was heavily influenced by another alien-fighting heroine -- Sigourney Weaver's Ripley from the 'Aliens' films.
