Platforms: PC
Release Date: September 21
Genre: Strategy
Why It's Hot:
It's only the latest version of the most acclaimed turn-based strategy series of all time. Civ V ups the ante everywhere, featuring a brand new game engine, new hexagonal tiles, new combat, and leaders who actually speak their civilization's native language. Tack on about six thousand more changes and you wind up with what's surely going to be another epic time-waster.
Why It's Not:
We hate to say it, but Civilization isn't for everyone. Even if you dug the fast-paced Civilization: Revolutions for the consoles, there's no guarantee you're going to dig the full-sized thing. And while many of the changes are welcome, we're pretty sure the die-hard Civ fans are going to be upset with some of the tweaks.
Did You Know?
Civilization mastermind Sid Meier was the second person inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame. The first? Mario main man Shigeru Miyamoto.
