Platforms: Xbox 360
Release Date: July 6
Genre: Action / Adventure
Why It's Hot:
Skills for kills, agent. Crackdown may have looked like a generic, futuristic action game, but under its staid exterior lurked what was nothing less than a vast jungle gym for grown-ups. As you explored the skyscrapers and streets of Pacific City, your cyborg avatar grew from a standard dude into a superhero capable of leaping tall buildings, throwing trucks like they were trashcans, and soaking up massive amounts of damage. Crackdown 2 promises more of the same -- with plenty of new toys.
Why It's Not:
Realtime Worlds, the Scotland-based team behind Crackdown, moved onto other projects after the original game was finished, and the sequel was given to another Scottish startup, Ruffian Games. Although Ruffian boasts some talent from the original Crackdown team, will they be able to recreate the magic?
Did You Know?
Crackdown’s success came as a surprise to almost everyone -- including publisher Microsoft, who were so convinced the game would sink they bundled it with a beta version of then super-hot Halo 3 in an attempt to drum up some sales.
